Thumbs up or Mudra , is it the same?

"Flexibility of spine leads to the flexibility of mind."

Did you see anything interesting in the picture on the right? No? You will!

By the time you complete reading this piece, you will be amazed to see the cues that the human mind provides us to stay in good health.

Let me therefore start with a small story about a word I learnt a couple of years back i.e. “Merudanda”. In Sanskrit/Odia/Hindi our spine is referred to as “Merudanda” which comprises of two words, “Meru” + “Danda”.

Indian mythology states that "Meru" is the abode of the gods or the center of the universe just like the spine lies in the center of our body.  The combination of the two terms “Meru” and “Danda” refers to “the scepter of the sacred Mount Meru.” It shares a resemblance with the central support of our skeletal system, the spinal column. Hence, the name.

In yoga, mudra means gestures and the Merudanda mudra (gesture) resembles the thumbs-up gesture that expresses that everything is okay. That is exactly what is observed in one’s spinal health by performing this mudra.

Now many of us do not know anything about either mudras or merudanda. But we still practice small gestures like the one in the picture attached, that heals our body and builds better and healthier body functions. Fascinating how our body, mind and soul makes us work towards our own happiness and wellbeing!

How does one live in Niedersachsen? One month journal!

Leaving one's family, and starting a new life in a new city with new people and a new culture is never easy. I knew the challenges that I would have to undergo. But one never knows until one actually goes through them!  It's been a month since I came to Niedersachsen and I admit it is beauty personified. Here is a compilation of a few of my experiences from my small village Velber, Niedersachsen. 1. People: The people are accepting, respectful and polite in and around Velber. Whenever I go for walks or take a trip to the supermarket, the old people always have a smile on their faces and are super enthusiastic about their lives. They greet with either "Moin", "Morgen" or "Hallo" and if you get into a conversation with a stranger they will always say "Tschüss" or "Auf Wiedersehen" at the end. My Deutsch is still not that great, but people help when they see you are new and are struggling with communication. The Germans in Niedersa...

#1 Reflections - Acceptance

"Life is a blank canvas of possibilities;  you are in control of what the finished picture could look like." There was a time in my life in early 2020 when I had lost myself.   I lost my sanity, my relationship, my goals everything!  I hadn't  felt such aimlessness in my life. My consciousness had shaped my reality by restricting my own value in my eyes. It was as if  I did not hold any value to the world more than my pay package. I blamed  God for all the things that happened to me. I blamed people  for politics during my placements. Every morning I woke up to feeling like a loser and envied other's achievements and paychecks.  My focus had shifted from myself to the impact others had on me, my life and my career.  My Baba (father) says, "Morning shows the day". But I just wouldn't wake up and see the sun anymore, which I used to love so much. Every morning, when I used to look at myself in the mirror I couldn't recognize the person I had be...
